Saint-Tropez est un magnifique village de bord de mer sur la Côte d'Azur. Ses incroyables yachts et voiliers, sa jet set, ses boutiques de luxe et ses immenses plages...autant d'atouts qui attirent la plupart des touristes dans cet région unique d'Europe. Le Polo Club Saint-Tropez, niché entre vignes et collines, accueille 10 équipes de niveau 15 goals à l'occasion de l'International Polo Cup. Les patrons d'équipe étaient Geoff Palmer (Californie), Kristian Petersson (Dubai), Karen Brink (Monaco), Rommi Gianni, Riccardo Tattoni et Gualtiero Giori (Italie), Frank Dubarry, Dean Clark et Bruno Bensoussan (France), Al Shair Fiyaz (Pakistan), et la propriétaire du club Corinne Schuler (Allemagne). Madame Schuler est à la tête du Polo Club Saint-Tropez depuis 11 ans et en a vraiment fait un temple du polo en saison estivale, en commençant par le tournoi de Pâques.

Le tournoi était simple étant donné que les 10 équipes étaient divisées en 2 poules de 5 équipes, jouant les unes contre les autres à l'intérieur de chaque poule. Les gagnants de chaque poule ont joué la finale dimanche 12 juillet. Toutes les autres équipes ont également joué les différents matchs subsidiaires. Chaque équipe a été récompensée de manière particulière sur le podium lors de la remise des prix le jour de la finale, y-compris le meilleur poney, Cubit, monté par Matias Nigoul et dont le propriétaire est Al Shair Fiyaz de F Polo Team, sponsorisée par Vicomte A., et le patron d'équipe ayant marqué le plus de buts, Franck Dubarry, qui a reçu une week-end de luxe à l'hôtel Cala di Volpe en Sardaigne.

M. Lapo Elkan, l'homme d'affaire international et propriétaire de la marque Italienne de prêt à porter Italia Independent, a participé à la remise des prix et offert sont fameux Panama Borsalino en édition limitée à l'équipe gagnante.

La Locura, dont le capitaine est Dario Musso, le joueur de 7 goals de handicap, et ses coéquipiers Rommi Gianni (1), Ignacio Tejerina (3), and Martin Inchauspe (4), ont possédé la 1ère poule en battant La Campana, Techno Polo et Saint-Tropez de manière fracassante. Et bien que Villa Sesta, avec les frères Menendez, lui ait donné du fil à retordre, La Locura est demeurée invaincue.

F Polo Team l'emporta haut la main dans la 2ème poule. Lors de son 1er match F Polo Team a été mise à mal par Aries Technomarine, 10 à 9½. Les 2 frères Bernal ont mené le quatuor d'Aries Technomarine à la baguette. F Polo Team est resté invaincu depuis le début de la saison après avoir constitué son équipe en mai. Le Capitaine d'équipe Justin Gaunt, un joueur Anglais, forme une bonne équipe avec Martin Espain (6) et Matias Niguol (4). Le patron d'équipe Al Shair Fiyaz n'a pas pu jouer et s'est fait remplacer par Charles de Saint Martin (0). La grande finale opposa F Polo Team, portant le maillot du sponsor Hublot, à La Locura, arborant les couleurs de Maybach. F polo/Hublot a démarré sur les chapeaux de roues et menait 5½ à 1 à la fin de la 2e chukker, dont 4 buts ont été marqués par Martin Espain (6) pour F polo/Hublot et 1 seul par Martin Inschauspe (4) pour La Locura/Maybach. Lors de la 3ème chukker, Inschauspe a marqué 3 buts rapides, rétrécissant l'écart. La dernière chukker s'est déroulée sur un rythme effréné mais F Polo/Hublot a gardé son avantage malgré un total de 4 buts marqués par Inschauspe et Dario Musso (7).

Martin Espain a été le joueur ayant marqué le plus de but pour l'équipe F Polo/Hublot avec 7 buts à son actif et le capitain de l'équipe Justin Gaunt (4) a marqué 2 buts. Score final 9½ à 8.

La magnifique remise des prix a récompensé toutes les équipes ainsi que les gagnant de l'International Polo Cup: F Polo/Hublot.

La semaine a été ponctuée par la parade des équipes de polo sur le port de Saint-Tropez et un asado sponsorisé par Tupungato Winelands of Burco America de Mendoza en Argentine. Sir Hubert Gosse était le fournisseur de ce grand événement, offrant la viande de boeuf et le vin de ses propres vignes. Le dîner de gala était sponsorisé par Maybach pour toutes les équipes et invités du monde entier le samedi soir...une bonne manière de cloturer l'International Polo Cup.

Saint-Tropez is a beautiful seaside resort village in the French Riviera. Unbelievable yachts and sail boats, beautiful people, shopping and grand sandy beaches bring most tourists to this unique area of Europe. There also is the Polo Club Saint-Tropez, set in the vineyards of the nearby hills, which hosted ten – 15 goal teams for the International Polo Cup. Madame Schuler has been at helm of Polo Club Saint-Tropez for the past 11 years and truly has made it a place to play polo during the summer months starting with an Easter tournament.

The format was simple as the ten teams were divided into 2 brackets of five – all teams playing each other within the bracket. The winner in each bracket played for the finals on Sunday, July 12. All other teams also played in different subsidiary matches. The Club recognizes that each team is special and all teams were recognized on the podium the day of the finals including the best playing pony, Cubit, played by Matias Nigoul and owned by Al Shair Fiyad of the F Polo Team, sponsored by Vicomte A. and the high scorer for the patrons, Franck Dubarry , received a weekend in the exclusive Hotel Cala di Volpe, in Sardinia.

Mr. Lapo Elkann, international businessman and owner of the Italian fashion brand Italia Independent, attended to the prize giving ceremony offering his special Panama Borsalino in limited edition to the winning team.

La Locura, captained by 7 goaler, Dario Musso, with teammates Rommi Gianni (1), Ignacio Tejerina(3), and Martin Inchauspe(4) seemed to own the first bracket by defeating La Campana, Techno Polo and Saint Tropez soundly and although Villa Sesta, with the Menendez brothers, giving them stiff competition – La Locura went undefeated.

The second bracket again had a clear winner in the F Polo Team. In their first game they were challenged by Aries Technomarine 10 to 9½. The two Bernal brothers leading Aries Techomarine foursome. F Polo team has gone undefeated all season putting their team together in May; the team captain, Justin Gaunt(4), an English player, has a strong combination with Martin Espain (6) Matias Niguol (4). The team patron Al Shair Fiyaz has been unable to play and Charles de Saint Martin (0) was the substitute.

The finals pitted F Polo Team wearing the Hublot shirts against La Locura with the team sponsor Maybach jerseys. F Polo/ Hublot was on fire right from the beginning and was ahead 5 ½ to 1 goal after the second chukker with Martin Espain(6) scoring four goals for F Polo/Hublot with one by Martin Inschauspe(4) for La Locura/Maybach. The third chukker Inschauspe scored 3 fast goals bringing the score closer.

The final chukker was fast paced but F Polo/Hublot kept their advantage even though a total of 4 goals were scored by Inschauspe and Dario Musso (7). Martin Espain was the high scorer for F Polo/Hublot with 7 goals and captain of the team, Justin Gaunt (4) had 2 goals. The final score was 9 ½ to 8.

A beautiful trophy presentation was organized, honoring all the teams as well as the winners of the International Polo Cup – F Polo Team/Hublot.

Special activities during the week included a polo parade thru the village of Saint-Tropez and an Asado sponsored by Tupungato Winelands of Burco Amercia from Mendoza, Argentina. Sir Hubert Gosse was the host for this great event flying in the wine from his own vineyards and the beef for the party. A gala dinner was hosted by Maybach for all the teams and guests from all over World on Saturday night - truly a great way to end the International Polo Cup.
